If you happen to be in Paris this early December, you might want to stop by the Wonder Vintage Market show. I don't know much about it, but I did the illustration for the promotional material!

I personally don't know Robert Bensam, but he made a comment on a recent post that I couldn't ignore. I rarely take requests, but I felt a gauntlet hit my foot.

It sounded really fun to animate some Kirby Tech! A lot of my blog work is sincere adoration to classic comics, and this is one of them. I started with a cropped splash page from Fantastic Four #64. I thought about removing the dialog, but it's so classic Stan Lee/Jack Kirby, it had to stay.

It makes you wish Disney would make a straight-up Kirby-inspired FF CG movie, doesn't it?

Halloween Cheesecake

As I write this, it is the perfect day for me to go outside and rake the leaves in my yard. But, I've remembered Halloween is only a few days away. I also remembered that my friend Anna Maria Cool had sent me a jpeg of a sweet convention sketch she had done of Vampirella. Finally, I remembered that I enjoy doing artwork more than raking leaves, so I inked and colored Anna's art. Happy Halloweeen!

Currently, Anna spends more time drawing Tooth Fairies than she does vamps. (At least for now.)

And yes, I know you can't read "Happy Halloween" in my finished art. If I were the responsible sort, I would have cleaned up my yard.

Something to get off my chest

I recently received a Square Stretched Canvas print of my superhero parody art from Threadless and it looks great! Great color, great impact. My photo doesn't do it justice.

If you view the art on the Threadless site, the image is a little deceptive. It shows the extra bleed area, which in reality wraps around the thick edges on the canvas frame.

However, if you purchase the flat, paper Square Print option, it actually prints as shown on the site, bleed clearly showing. Even though the Square Stretched Canvas is more expensive, it's much cooler in my opinion.

My work is a little hard to find on Threadless. If you use the main search engine at the top of the site, it only searches Guys Tees. The Super Embarrassment shirt is sold out, so it shows no results. It's unfortunate because it's still available on Girls Tees and other product. Such as this iphone case...

Now if I could only convince Threadless to give my Woman version the same treatment, all would be right with the world. Com'on Threadless, don't you want all to be right with the world?

I had some free time over Thanksgiving and realized I hadn't drawn a comic page in a while. So I did!

The girlfriend before Lois...

I know Batman has some crazy "official" reason for having a robot dinosaur in his Batcave, but I think the following is much more likely...

I graduated from the University of Arkansas. I got a great education there. (Some of it was even in the classroom, wink wink.) Threadless is currently having a "College Challenge" and I submitted the above Arkansas Razorbacks design. I wanted to illustrate "Go Hogs" and make it somewhat traditional, just to give it a longer shelf-life. I'm pretty happy with it. If you're Threadless member (or are willing to do the free sign-up), please vote.

Animated Comic Cover: Valentine's Day Edition!

When I have time, I enjoy creating animated covers. I like to bring attention to classic or interesting artwork. I think 1951's Amazing Adventures #4 qualifies...

(And yes, the alien drool is on the original cover.)

On a totally different note, the frequency of my blog posts have slowed down the last few months. I've been drawing on a 160 page comic, which I hope to launch on the web later this year. The below page doesn't give much away. It may look like a cliche zombie situation, but I guarantee you have no idea where the story is headed...

On this page, I tried to up the ante a bit in creating an old comic look. Not only did I misregister the color, but I also added a faint image of a reverse comic page, which would show through the newsprint. Yep. This is how I amuse myself.

Animated Ads

I've recently created three "comic book" animations for an online ad campaign. I thought they'd be fun to share. Below is a smaller version of each. You can see the full-size animations at http://www.bankziety.com

These makes me want to do single panel, animated, gag cartoons. Hmmmm...

Just a quick note--
My Super Embarrassment T-Shirt has been reprinted over at Threadless.com. It's just 10 bucks if you buy it today or Friday! The first printing, at regular price, sold out very quickly.

(Okay, back to work on a two-page Batman parody I hope to post next week.)

Ten minutes here, ten minutes there...

Maybe the Silver Surfer's board is a giant tongue depressor.

My son, Martin, made an off-the-cuff remark as we visited our local comic shop. It amused me enough that I found a couple of statue images on the web, used some NASA photos, did a little retouching, and made this for him.

Note: I got the cool Galactus photo from Amin Ko's post on statueforum.com, and the Firelord pieces from http://marvel-figurines.blogspot.com. If either of you would like me to remove these from my site, let me know and I will. Thanks.

Okay, okay. You can buy this.

I often get requests to make my art available to buy. Truthfully, I do my blog for my own amusement, but some parodies I am comfortable with selling. I just have never had the time to research for the best printer. I realized this week that I have an old Zazzle account. So, I've put the above art for sale on prints and canvases.
You can order through Zazzle. Click here!

If you have other formats you would like to see, please let me know.

Btw, I'm very happy to mention, if you happen to buy the August issue of Glamour magazine (out this Tuesday), you'll find a version of my "Oops Woman" within its glossy pages. Thank you Glamour!

    Batman is a Hoarder!

I continue to work on my 160 page monster comic, but I took a break to draw something that's been in the back of my mind for a while. My friend Anna Maria Cool recently mentioned she suspected Batman was a hoarder. The seed was planted. I knew I wouldn't stop thinking about it until I drew something about it. I can stop thinking about it now. Click to enlarge.

Btw, the objects on the bottom of page 1 are all from actual Batman stories;  Detective Comics #244, Detective Comics  #235, Detective Comics #241, respectively. (Disrespectively?)

Two Week Road Trip - In Textures!

My lovely spouse and I decided to take a drive from Kansas City to the Northern California Redwoods, down the entire coast, and back again via the Grand Canyon. Shortly before leaving, I had a dream where I chronicled the trip only with close-up textures from our travel. Sometimes when I dream things, I do them. It's just the kind of crazy cat I am!

Day 1 - My driveway, Kansas City area, Missouri. Day 2 - The Great Salt Lake beach, Utah. Day 3 - The desert ground, Nevada. Day 4 - Ponderosa Pine Bark, California. Day 5 - Inside a redwood tree, Redwood National Park, California. Day 6 - Starfish skin, Cresent City beach, California.

Day 7 - Beach rock, Monterey, California. Day 8 - Tree bark, San Diego Botanical Gardens, California. Day 9 - City Grate, San Diego, California. Day 10 - Rhinoceros skin, San Diego Zoo, California. Day 11 - Mystical Juniper Tree Bark, Sedona, Arizona. Day 12 - Extreme close-up of the Grand Canyon, Arizona.

Day 13 - End of petrified wood stump, Petrified Forest, Arizona. Day 14 - My poor shoe sole (we did a lot of hiking), Kansas City area, Missouri.

    Butterflies have tricked us!
